Unfriendly Fairies

To avert unwanted pranks from unfriendly fairies, some people believed that cold iron could be used as a protective charm. A wandering traveler who feels like he had been walking endlessly in all directions and getting back to one spot may wear his clothing inside out. When being in hot pursuit with these unwanted strange beings, one may jump over running water to stop them. Bread and salt, bells, iron horseshoes, whistling, snapping the finger to create noise may deter them. The easiest is putting a piece of dry bread in the pocket. Some herbs can be used to like St. Johnswort, red verbena, daisies, rowan or mountain ash. But the best and strongest herb that can be used against them is the four leaf clover. Four leaf clovers protect humans from fairy glamour. There are stories circulating that humans may be able to see fairies by peeping through a stone with a natural hole in it. Building knocked corners around the house were also believed to blocked fairies path. There are bodies of water which are known as prone to drowning people. It would be wise to avoid the bodies of water they inhabit. It would also be wise not to cut bushes on a fairies fort otherwise one will be punished with death.
